Bridges are neat

Now I'd love to say that it was an amazing park and that it's for the better I ended up there instead, but honestly, it was just okay. It had a couple of sculptures that were kinda neat but I guess that coolest part was the bridges.

There were a few bridges in that area and there was this spot under one of them that was especially cool. You could hear the cars driving over top. I've heard cars drive past plenty of times before but this time made me pause. It made me think of how my Yorkie has this one spot where she stands to bark and it echos just right so she sounds huge... I don't know how to explain it better than that. For a second I saw something ordinary in a completely new light and then it was over.
I NEEDED to get out of my house, so bad weather be damned I decided I'd go hiking. That didn't go as planned... Not only was the weather against me but the Nature Preserve I was trying to go to, Cove Spring Park, was closed. With everything being closed these days I wasn't super surprised but I was disappointed. I was bound and determined to go on an adventure today so I kept going and ended up at Kentucky River Park.

"Flying" on the Wind

I recently went biking at Legacy trails. The trail is beautiful. A section of it even goes past the horse park. Hopefully, they'll expand that part soon, it was just a little too short for my liking.

I'd say the part that stood out the most from my trip, aside from the amazing blue of the sky, was the wind. It was such a windy day. There were a couple of times I was convinced I'd be blown over. Windy days are the best days to ride in my opinion. They're more challenging and more fun. I love the wind.

My favorite thing to do on windy days is to face into the wind, close my eyes, throw my hands out to the side, and pretend I'm flying. There's so much power in the wind if you embrace it.

The whole bike ride all I could do was stare at the grass and the trees around me, everything was swaying in the wind. Strong bursts would skim over the grass and bring a field to life, making the grass look like an ocean, and the trees were dancing to the rhythm of the cosmos. Windy days are my favorite days.

Finding a "Magic" Forest

I recently went hiking at Asbury Trails. These trails are known for their waterfalls and caves. I took my dog with me so I didn't crawl through any of the caves but the waterfalls were beautiful. Some might call them astounding. And yes I thought they were beautiful but there was something far smaller and simpler that impressed me that day... moss. It was everywhere! On trees and rocks. It made everything feel like a magic forest.

There was just something about standing in so much green with tiny flowers growing out of rocks, the sound of waterfalls in the distance, and moss everywhere that just made it all feel so magical. I practically expected a fairy to fly out.

I hope to go back someday with a few people and film something magic-related down there so maybe people can understand what I felt when I saw the forests at Asbury trails.

Also, fun fact there's also this cool challenge course nearby that technically you're not supposed to walk through and I neither deny nor confirm that I saw said course... but if I did it would have been pretty cool.

Below you'll see more pictures and even a video of the waterfall!

Jumping Off a Cliff

There was a time of my life when I didn't truly know what repelling was. Thankfully, that time is past. My friend invited me to Red River Gorge and a group of us went repelling near Gray's Arch. I'd been skydiving so I knew jumping off a cliff would be nothing, but man oh man is that first couple of steps a doozy. The only thing that got me over the edge was by clinging to a nearby tree. It was the only way I could convince my feet to push off the edge. I've since gained the title of 'tree-hugger'. A title I wear with pride.

I think the coolest part of this trip was the view. You may think you've seen trees but, you haven't truly seen them until you're dangling within a cluster of them. All the fear I'd had mere moments before vanished as soon as I was hanging there looking around. The trees, the rocks, the waterfall; It all looks so different when you're hanging from a rope many feet from the ground.

At this point I have no idea who took which pictures. I think I took most of the pictures posted here but we all shared pictures at the end.

There Be Giants in Dem Hills

I recently took a trip to Bernheim Arboretum and Research. It was a little over an hour away and worth the drive. Bernheim Arboretum has 3 sculptures of giants. They were made by a Danish artist using recycled wood. They’re named: Mama Loumari, Little Nis, and Little Elina. There are also various other sculptures throughout the park.

When I went there was some construction going on so I wasn’t able to go on all the trails   But I look forward to going back one day to discover anything I missed.

The giants were neat to look at and I see the appeal but if you go, one thing you should look for is the water. The ponds there are a source of underrated beauty. Maybe it was just the season when I went but these lakes were such a pretty shade of teal. It’s easy to just walk past the water and over the bridge but, if you look closely you’ll see turtles, frogs, and geese.

Otherworld

I think my favorite section was either the giant tree in the center or the 'monster under the bed' room.

You can find out more about the making of otherworld here.

How does one sum up otherworld?

I had a couple of people ask me what I was doing this weekend and the best I could come up was that I was going to an art exhibit in Columbus Ohio.

That doesn't seem to cover what exactly Otherworld is though. Otherworld's website calls itself "A NEW KIND OF ADVENTURE", "visitors are encouraged to freely explore and interact with a surreal world of science fiction and fantasy."
There was a bunch of unusual art that lit up and you were allowed to touch it. Everywhere you looked was something new and different. And best of all, there were hidey holes you could crawl through!
I don't think I took a picture of nearly a tenth of what was at Otherworld but maybe these few pics below will inspire you to check it out for yourself!
A couple of these pictures were taken by my friend Anita.
